If you are injured on or near a construction site (by falling debris or by falling in an open hole, for example) you should be able to recover damages from the construction company, which is responsible for keeping public sidewalks free from falling debris and keeping the area generally safe. If the company doesn't prevent this and debris falls on passersby, or someone falls in a hole, the company may be liable. Construction companies should always tell pedestrians they risk injury in areas normally used by the public. If posting a sign is not enough, the company should place barriers and warning lamps around the unsafe area. If you have been injured due to a construction site that is unsafe, contact an attorney to review your case and discuss your options.
